How to find Instituto Iguana and how to get to Mazunte
Mazunte is a small village on the pacific coast of oaxaca, in the south of Mexico. On this page you can find information on our location in Mazunte and how to get to Mazunte from a range of places.
In Mazunte
El Instituto Iguana is located about 5 minutes walking distance form the village center, at the top of a hill. In the village center there is a short bridge that crosses a river bed which is usually completely dry, except in the rainyseason. Take the road on the left side of the river bed and you will see a big “Instituto Iguana” sign. Just follow the signs leading you to our beautiful school at the top of the hill.
From Pochutla
Pochutla is the town next to Mazunte. You will probably pass through Pochutla if you come to Mazunte by bus from Mexico City, Oaxaca, Chiapas and most other places. From Pochutla there are shared taxis and colectivos(pickups) which go directly to Mazunte. You can also take a private taxi.
From Puerto Escondido
Puerto Escondido is about 45 Minutes north of Mazunte. You can take a local bus from Puerto Escondido and ask the driver to drop you of at "Crucero San Antonio" which is the crossing where the road to Mazunte starts from the coast road. Most drivers will know where to drop you of, when asking for Mazunte. However it is good to mention the "Cruzero San Antonio" to leave things absolutely clear. At "Cruzero San Antonio" shared taxis and colectivos head to Mazunte every few minutes.
From Oaxaca City
From Oaxaca you are facing a 6 hour journey to Mazunte. Your best bet is to take a "Minibus" from Oaxaca to Pochutla. There is also a regular big bus but it takes much, much longer then the minibus. The road from Oaxaca to Pochutla goes high up through the mountains and is very windy on some parts. You may want to buy some sea-sickness-pills before entering the minibus. Once arrived in Pochutla simply head on as described at "from Pochutla".
From other places in Mexico
By bus: there are direct Bus connections to Pochutla or Puerto Escondido from many other places in Mexico. For example from: Acapulco, San Cristóbal de las Casas, Salina Cruz, Tapachula or Tuxtla Guiterrez. Simply walk into the bus terminal and buy a ticket to "Pochutla" or "Puerto Escondido", then head on as described in the corresponding paragraphs of this guide.

From Huatulco or Huatulco Airport (HUX)
From Huatulco take a local bus from the huatulco bus terminal to Pochutla. Then go on as described at "From Pochutla".
From Huatulco Airport when arriving at Huatulco Airport the more expensive option is to take a private and taxi from inside the airport area directly to Mazunte, the cheapest option is to walk out of the airport area where the coastal road passes and wait for the local bus in direcction Pochutla. Once in Pochutla you can go on as described at "From Pochutla".

From Mexico City
From Mexico City you can take a bus or plane.
By bus: Comfortable first class buses leave from "Tasqueña" bus station to "Pochutla" every night. The trip is about 12 hours. You will arrive at Pochutla in the morning, then head on as described at "from Pochutla".
By plane: Travelling by plane is much quicker, infact it only takes an hour. There are plenty of daily flights from Mexico City to Huatulco and Puerto Escondido. "Volaris", "Interjet", "VivaAerobus" and "Aeromexico" are airlines flying to Huatulco and Puerto Escondido. Depending on your destination you can head on as described in "from Huatulco Airport" or "from Puerto Escondido". We offer pickups from both airports.
From Space (or with GPS)
When travelling in a space ship pass through "milky way" then head towards "earth" and try to land your space ship at 15.67096°N -96.55374°E. These coordinates will also help you when travelling from anywhere else and owning a gps device.
